New Lifetime Achievement Award for Military Writing Announced

Chicago, IL (PRWeb) March 19, 2007 -- The Tawani Foundation announced today the creation of a new annual award, the Pritzker Military Library Literature Award for Lifetime Achievement in Military Writing. The award recognizes and honors the lifetime contributions of a living author for a body of work dedicated to enriching the understanding of American military history including military affairs. The Pritzker Military Library Literature Award includes a medallion, citation and an honorarium of $100,000 (USD) and will be presented at the 4th Annual Pritzker Military Library Liberty Gala, to be held at Chicago's Drake Hotel on Saturday, October 6, 2007.

Tracy, Executive Director of the Tawani Foundation "The Pritzker Military Library Literature Award expands and deepens the Tawani Foundation's commitment to the preservation of military heritage by honoring the author who best embodies our ideals and goals."

The process for selection of the Pritzker Military Library Literature Award is open to nominations by publishers, agents, booksellers and other professional organizations in the publishing industry. Self-nominations are not allowed. To nominate an individual, those interested are encouraged to visit the Tawani Foundation website (www.tawanifoundation.org) and complete the nomination document and submission requirements by May 1, 2007.

The author selected may be of any background or nationality, and while the collective works do not have to be written in English (in the original), the representative book must be in English.

The nomination submissions will be screened by a national committee of historians, writers and individuals related to the study of American history and heritage. The screening committee will provide a panel of finalists to the executive council of the Foundation to choose the 2007 recipient. The recipient will be announced in a special live webcast announcement ceremony on Monday, July 16, 2007 originating from the Pritzker Military Library in Chicago, Illinois.

The Pritzker Military Library, founded in 2003, is a unique special collections library with a mission to acquire and maintain materials and develop appropriate programs focusing on the concept of the Citizen Soldier as an essential element for the preservation of democracy. As a premier non-governmental military library and research facility, the Pritzker Military Library offers patrons, members and researchers over 20,000 volumes, 6,000 images and over 800 prints and posters for study in a state-of-the art facility located in downtown Chicago. While programming and events are supported by sponsors and associate members, the Library is free and open to the public during published hours of operations.

The Pritzker Military Library presents weekly author lectures, interviews and panel discussions to a live audience, free and open to the public, as well as access to exhibits of military art, antique posters and artifacts from its collection or from visiting artists. All lectures and panel discussions are webcast with a live audience and archived on the website for future viewing and rebroadcast to on broadcast television on WYCC, a Chicago PBS affiliate. To date, over 150 hours of programs have been broadcast live and archived for future viewing or audio podcast download on the Library's website at: www.pritzkermilitarylibrary.org. The Pritzker Military Library is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, charitable organization with no partisan, political or governmental affiliation.
